Integration of Standard Industrial Modbus
TCP/RTU/ASCII Network
To its readily integrated industrial management level products that come with SCADA/HMI systems and other data collecting systems on factory floors, PLANET has included the Industrial Modbus TCP/IP Protocol. Additionally, the industrial IT SNMP network has been replaced by a Modbus TCP/IP network for industrial automation. For the industrial automation context, PLANET industrial management level products with the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol provide adaptable network connectivity solutions.
The first industrial level 1-port RS232/422/485 Modbus Gateway, IMG-2100T, from PLANET is a bridge that converts between Modbus TCP/IP Protocol and Modbus RTU/ASCII Protocol, and it completes the industrial automation environment application solution. It has a small yet tough IP30 metal casing and a wide operating temperature range of -40 to 75 degrees C.
Using a Conversion Bridge to Deploy a Flexible Network
Between equipment running the Modbus RTU/ASCII Protocol and administrator workstations running the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol, the IMG-2100T can act as a conversion bridge. To fulfill the demands of integration between the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol, Modbus RTU Master/Slave Protocol, and Modbus ASCII Master/Slave Protocol, the IMG-2100T's RS232/422/485 serial interface offers the Modbus RTU/ASCII operation mode and a variety of baud rate options.
The IMG-2100T's benefit is that it makes it simple for users to create an industrial environment using the Modbus TCP/IP Protocol and the Modbus RTU/ASCII Protocol, providing a workaround for industrial control equipment that lacks Ethernet ports and can only be controlled by an industrial PC workstation or industrial control panel.
Additionally, a successful Modbus Ethernet, Modbus serial, or multi-Modbus master/slave integration solution in an industrial hybrid network brings the following:
- Up to 32 TCP slave connection requests are supported in master mode.
- Up to 32 TCP master connections are supported in slave mode.
Remote Control
With its RS232/422/485 serial interface and 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 Ethernet connector, the IMG-2100T may connect to the Modbus TCP/IP network and convert the linked industrial Modbus RTU/ASCII equipment into IP-based facilities. For effective remote network control, it offers a telnet interface and remote web management. The IMG-2100T also includes the PLANET Modbus Gateway utility tool and supports the PLANET Smart Discovery utility, allowing network administrators to quickly obtain information about the IMG-2100T's IP subnet address or modify it.
Observing the state of a Modbus Serial Port
The IMG-2100T displays the precise total number of frames delivered and received on the remote web/telnet management interface as well as the total number of bytes transmitted and received on the RS232/422/485 serial interface. Through the single RS232/422/485 serial port, this capability enables network administrators to view the status and statistics of the IMG-2100T.
Designing for Stable Performance in Hardened Environments
The IMG-2100T offers a high level of immunity to EMI and strong electrical surges, which are typically present on plant floors or in curb-side traffic control cabinets. The IMG-2100T can be used in practically any challenging environment because to its working temperature range of -40 to 75 degrees Celsius.
The IP30-rated, small metal housing on the IMG-2100T enables wall mounting for effective cabinet space utilization. The IMG-2100T also offers an integrated power source with a wide range of voltages (9 to 48V DC / 24V AC), making it appropriate for applications requiring high availability and global operation.
High Availability Network System Dual Power Input
To increase system dependability and uptime, the IMG-2100T has a robust dual power input system with wide-ranging voltages (9V–48V DC / 24V AC) integrated into the customer's automation network. As seen in the example below, if Power Supply 1 stops functioning, the hardware failover mechanism will automatically turn on in order to continue powering the IMG-2100T with Power Supply 2 without any interruptions.
